Class Descriptions
It has always been our aim to not just make people better, but to give them the tools to stay functioning. Now we can back this up by having our new fitness studio. In this studio, there are a range of instructors from physios, to functional Personal Trainers to yoga teachers to help keep you in the pain free state you were when you are discharged from the clinic. Now instead of giving you exercises and advice for you to do at home. You can drop in to our bespoke sessions and we can do them with you, helping you to do them correctly.
Our range of classes will be extensive, but ask your physiotherapist which one will suit you best. We will then speak to the instructor, tell them why you’re going and what to watch out for. This way all of us can still keep an eye on you to make sure everything is as we and you would like it to be. How’s that for after care service!
Body Clinic Fitness is not just for existing clients, the range of classes are open to all. Please see below a range of descriptions for each class and refer to our Team page and Blogs for more information on individual classes. If you still have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us either at The Body Clinic or via Facebook or Twitter and we will answer you questions.
There is no long term commitment to the classes, you can just drop in or benefit from a reduced price by purchasing a course of classes. Classes can be booked via Class Timetable
PILATES
BEGINNERS PILATES
This class introduces the Pilates technique. This class will suit people of all ages and fitness levels, you will find that it is low impact and low intensity with an emphasis on control and it would be particularly beneficial for those with a history of low back pain, shoulder pain and neck problems, weak pelvic floor muscles or related movement problems.
SCULPT AND TONE
A class which takes you on to some of the higher level Pilates exercises. This offers training for lumbo-pelvic control, neck stabilisation, spinal mobilisation and strengthening of the global muscular system. This class also uses some of the small equipment which can help to progress Pilates exercises.
ASTANGA YOGA
Astanga Yoga is a method of yoga that involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.
DRU YOGA
Dru Yoga is a graceful and potent form of yoga, based on flowing movements, directed breathing and visualisation. With its foundations set firmly in ancient yogic tradition, Dru works on body, mind and spirit—improving strength and flexibility, creating core stability, building a heightened feeling of positivity, and deeply relaxing and rejuvenating your whole being.
Designed to be practised by people of all abilities, all fitness levels and all age groups, Dru is a style of yoga that can be quickly dipped into or learnt in more depth over a lifetime.
POWER YOGA
An active and athletic style of yoga adapted from the traditional ashtanga system. Power yoga doesn’t stick to the same sequence of poses each time like ashtanga does, so the style varies depending on the teacher. Classes called “vinyasa” or “flow” in your gym or studio can be vastly different but, in general, stem from this movement and from ashtanga as well. Ideal for our athletic types who love its sweaty aspect and its great results for flexibility and strength. Isometric movements recruit every muscle in the body, which sparks metabolism and results in more calories burned.
PRENATAL
Yoga postures carefully adapted for expectant mothers. Prenatal yoga is tailored to help women in all stages of pregnancy—even getting back in shape post-baby. It is a safe exercise during pregnancy; speeding up labor and warding off pregnancy aches, pains, and swelling; plus, keeping the core strong to help maintain good posture counteracting the pull of the baby on the body.
THE BODY CLINICS HOT CLASSES
- Hot Power Yoga
- Hot Pilates
- Hot Core
- Hot Stretch
These will be in about 30 – 35ºC so its hot but not too uncomfortable. As we know heat is soothing to expect to be both soothed and worked hard. Come with towels and oodles of water, (we’ll have both if you need them). These classes are designed to improve your flexibility, health , detoxify your system, improve your posture, muscle tone, decrease your muscle tension and make you feel absolutely great, (though only after the class, as it is a very intense workout . It is still suitable for all levels as you can do it at your own speed and intensity..
SPORTS YOGA
The Body Clinics Sports Yoga is designed through looking at the way athletes move and how they train, and then incorporate it into a yoga-based workout. When you incorporate Sports Yoga into your training program, you will benefit from stronger muscles, improved flexibility, better body and breathe control and a stronger core. So…..…are you ready to awaken that athlete within?
These classes will focus on learning to move your body in a way that is safe and prevents injuries and how to strengthen areas that are painful or restricted in movement. The idea is to be able to bring life force through your body in an efficient way that both revitalizes and relaxes your whole being. The breathing is central to this practice and this will be used as a feedback to gauge the state of other aspects if your being, physical, mental, emotional, energetic and spiritual.
Although the classes can be quite dynamic and will benefit in a number of ways including physical mental health, mental wellbeing and relaxation, the focus is more on making the whole practice a form of heightening awareness, expanding consciousness and ultimately self-realisation.
STRETCH
Everything you need to stretch lies within your body. We are going to teach you how to move your hips and spine, and then use your arms, legs and head as natural weights, you won’t believe the results! You will move, perform and feel better with muscles that are longer, stronger, more supple and healthy from the inside-out and from end-to-end! This class aims to achieve all this.
CORE
The Body Clinics Core training will work both the lower back and abdominals in unison. Most movements incorporate the core in some way. Very few muscle groups are isolated. Instead the whole body works as a unit and core strength training endeavors to replicate this. From this class you will improve your body control and balance, increase the power output from both the core and your peripheral muscles such as the shoulders, arms and legs. It will reduce the risk of injury, improve your balance and athletic performance.
All of the above classes can be arranged to suit our patients be it one to one, just a couple of you. Whatever way will help you get the most benefit from the session.
