It has always been our aim to not just make people better, but to give them the tools to stay functioning. Now we can back this up by having our new rehab suite. In this suite, there will be a range of instructors from physios, to functional Personal Trainers to yoga teachers to help keep you in the pain free state you were when you are discharged from the clinic. Now instead of giving you exercises and advice for you to do at home. You can drop in to our bespoke rehab sessions and we can do them with you, ensuring you are doing them correctly.

Our range of classes will be extensive, but always ask your therapist which one will suit you best. We will then speak to the instructor, tell them why you’re going and what to watch out for. This way all of us can still keep an eye on you to make sure everything is as we and you would like it to be. How’s that for after care service!

Description to follow, yoga instructor finalising it!

BEGINNERS PILATES

This class introduces the Pilates technique. This class will suit people of all ages and fitness levels, you will find that it is low impact and low intensity with an emphasis on control and it would be particularly beneficial for those with a history of low back pain, shoulder pain and neck problems, weak pelvic floor muscles or related movement problems.

POWER PILATES

A class which takes you on to some of the higher level Pilates exercises. This offers training for lumbo-pelvic control, neck stabilisation, spinal mobilisation and strengthening of the global muscular system. This class also uses some of the small equipment which can help to progress Pilates exercises.

STRETCH

Everything you need to stretch lies within your body. We are going to teach you how to move your hips and spine, and then use your arms, legs and head as natural weights, you won’t believe the results! You will move, perform and feel better with muscles that are longer, stronger, more supple and healthy from the inside-out and from end-to-end! This class aims to achieve all this.

CORE

The Body Clinics Core training will work both the lower back and abdominals in unison. Most movements incorporate the core in some way. Very few muscle groups are isolated. Instead the whole body works as a unit and core strength training endeavors to replicate this. From this class you will improve your body control and balance, increase the power output from both the core and your peripheral muscles such as the shoulders, arms and legs. It will reduce the risk of injury, improve your balance and athletic performance.

POWER YOGA

An active and athletic style of yoga adapted from the traditional ashtanga system. Power yoga doesn’t stick to the same sequence of poses each time like ashtanga does, so the style varies depending on the teacher. Classes called “vinyasa” or “flow” in your gym or studio can be vastly different but, in general, stem from this movement and from ashtanga as well. Ideal for our athletic types who love its sweaty aspect and its great results for flexibility and strength. Isometric movements recruit every muscle in the body, which sparks metabolism and results in more calories burned.

SPORTS YOGA

The Body Clinics Sports Yoga is designed through looking at the way athletes move and how they train, and then incorporate it into a yoga based workout. When you incorporate Sports Yoga into your training program, you’ll benefit from stronger muscles, improved flexibility, better body and breath control and a stronger core. So…..…are you ready to awaken that athlete within?

ASTANGA YOGA

Astanga Yoga is a method of yoga that involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.

DRU YOGA

Dru Yoga is a graceful and potent form of yoga, based on flowing movements, directed breathing and visualisation. With its foundations set firmly in ancient yogic tradition, Dru works on body, mind and spirit—improving strength and flexibility, creating core stability, building a heightened feeling of positivity, and deeply relaxing and rejuvenating your whole being.
Designed to be practised by people of all abilities, all fitness levels and all age groups, Dru is a style of yoga that can be quickly dipped into or learnt in more depth over a lifetime.

We also have a Yoga Instructor who has had many years of training and teaching pre & post natal women. She has adapted her Yoga postures carefully for expectant mothers. Prenatal yoga is tailored to help women in all stages of pregnancy—even getting back in shape post-baby. It is a safe exercise during pregnancy; speeding up labor and warding off pregnancy aches, pains, and swelling; plus, keeping the core strong to help maintain good posture counteracting the pull of the baby on the body.

All of the above classes can be arranged to suit our patients be it one to one, just a couple of you. Whatever way will help you get the most benefit from the session.

Everyone knows that pregnancy and childbirth is extremely hard on your body, which is why it can definitely help you to have post natal massage, Altrincham. There are many benefits to having post natal massage, so read on to find out more.

After childbirth, many women experience cramping that occurs due to a scar where the placenta was attached to their uterus. Post natal massage Altrincham can help to relieve that pain that comes with this, as well as other forms of postpartum pain. For instance, it is not uncommon for women to experience lower back pain, partly due to the strain the pregnancy placed on their body but also from the strain of carrying a baby around; massage can help to lessen this.

Post natal massage Altrincham can also help to re-establish the structural integrity of the pelvis, which is naturally important when it comes to regaining control over your body.

The massage can have emotional benefits as well as physical ones – a lot of women feel a need to reconnect with their bodies and take some time for themselves; post natal massage Altrincham can help to relieve fatigue and reduce stress hormones, which helps to make the experience of being a new mother more enjoyable.

If you have been unfortunate enough to have suffered a stroke, physiotherapy Altrincham provides rehabilitation which can aid the recovery process. A stroke is when the brain capillaries – or even arteries – rupture. Physiotherapy Altrincham work with patients until they are part or fully recovered, depending upon the damage that has been caused by the stroke.

One of the effects of a stroke is paralysis of the limbs. If the limbs are no longer used, a possible result could be gangrene. Physiotherapy Altrincham work with the stroke patient to regain movement in the affected limbs. Stroke patients may have to learn to walk again and in many case this can be achieved by carrying out walking exercise as directed by physiotherapy Altrincham. In some cases, strokes affect the patient’s speech. Physiotherapy Altrincham will work with the patient on speaking exercises to try and regain the ability of speech.

After experiencing a stroke, the rehabilitation process can be a long one. Physiotherapy Altrincham offer a programme of treatments which are tailored to meet the needs of each individual patient as strokes can affect different people in different ways. The main focus, however, is the same, which is to help the patient recover as fully as possible.

The versatility of physiotherapy Altrincham is why it can help so many different patients. Physiotherapy Altrincham offers the following treatments: mobilisation and manipulation, acupuncture, massage, electrotherapy, exercise programmes and advice on ways to help those with specific conditions.

The role that physiotherapy Altrincham plays in the community is to improve and restore movement to parts of the body which have been affected by injury or a health condition. The physiotherapist will decide on which treatment will be most beneficial and this is dependent on both the condition itself and the medical history of the patient in question. For example, physiotherapy Altrincham deal with many arthritis sufferers. Arthritis is a chronic condition which tends to affect older people by causing pain and stiffness in the joints. Physiotherapy Altrincham assists these patients by applying treatments which keep joints mobile and also strengthen the surrounding muscles.

For those of you that are looking for a local physio, Altrincham is home to The Body Clinic. We have fully qualified physiotherapists who can help our patients with a common complaint; sciatica. Sciatica is a condition which causes pain or weakness, mainly in the back, but also the buttock, hamstring, calf or foot. Our clinic for physio, Altrincham, offers a range of different treatments to help our patients to rid themselves of the pain and discomfort of sciatica.

There are certain symptoms which are common to sciatica, such as pain, weakness or pins and needles down the back of the legs. Pain and weakness is often triggered by sitting, bending and lifting and the patient will often have a history of back pain.

At our clinic for physio in Altrincham, we will do a thorough assessment of the patient so ascertain whether or not they are, in fact, suffering from sciatica. A programme of physiotherapy treatment will then be devised for the patient; dependent upon their personal history and the symptoms which they are showing to be suffering from. Physio treatments may include manipulation, mobilization, body massage, soft tissue massage and also advice on how the patient can help relieve pain relating to their posture. For effective physio Altrincham is where to visit.

A recent news story has detailed the amazing progress that a victim of a hit-and-run incident has made. Rob Summers, from Oregan, USA, was left a paraplegic after being run over by a car. The horrific incident resulted in Summers being paralysed from the chest down after his spine was damaged. Before this, Summers was an avid baseball player and was even part of the team who won the College World Series in 2006.

The physical therapy treatment works by stimulating the spinal cord using an electrical current. This allows Summers to move his toes, hips, knees and ankles of his own accord, as well as being able to walk on a treadmill whilst being supported. The damage to his spine has meant that messages from the brain are unable to travel down the spinal cord. Electrodes were implanted into Summers’ spine by surgeons and he was given physical therapy treatment on a daily basis to stand, walk and move his legs whilst electrical pulses were released down his spinal cord. It was a matter of days before Summers could move his legs himself. Reggie Edgerton, from the University of California, described the feeling when the results were first revealed.

“None of us believed it. I was afraid to believe it.”

This alternative method of physical therapy is not to be seen as a cure for paralysis according to a Dr Melissa Andrews, from the Cambridge Centre for Brain Repair, but it does give hope to many paraplegics.

Dr Andrews explained by saying, “I think people need to read this and say the possibility is out there, but it may not come tomorrow. It’s the closest we’ve ever seen and it’s the best hope right now.”
